¡Welcome to Quetzaltenango!

Tranvía de los Altos offers you the opportunity to learn in a deeper way the history of Quetzaltenango, one of the most beautiful and emblematic cities in Guatemala. By taking part in one of our tours, you will get to know, through a historical and architectural review, about the different buildings and monuments surrounding Xela.

You will also get to live with the Quetzaltencos, who are well known for their kindness and patriotism, as well as being famous for their excellent treatment to visitors.

Tranvía de los Altos allows you to travel back in to the past, in an old locomotion transport, used in the early 20 th century by Quezaltecos, the local train or Tranvía.

The city of Quetzaltenango is located 206 km southwest from Guatemala City, its name means “the wall of the Quetzal” (national bird of Guatemala), and is 2,333 meters above sea level. It is the second largest city in the country, and a major center of industrial and agricultural trade in and outside the country.

Xela or Xelajú (its common names) is one of the biggest cities in Guatemala, with a population of more than 200,000 inhabitants. The city is always in motion; one important feature is its educational innovation, available both to foreigners and students of western regions. There are more than 30 Spanish schools offering one on one teaching method, encouraging interaction between students and teachers.

Let us be your hosts during your stay in Quetzaltenango, we would be pleased to show you our beautiful city.
